It is a six hours drive, you will stop for a lunch and then continue to Tanga. Arrive in the later afternoon and you will travel uphill through several villages up to the Magamba Rainforest and sleep overnight in the one-horse town of Lukozi. Rows of growing produce are everywhere, down in the valleys up to the tops of the hills. Day 2 : Usambara hike
Time on Foot: 3 hours, 30 minutes. The second day is a little bit light but no less beautiful. Hike through the different small villages of Manolo and Sunga up to the magnificent Range. You will stay at the sisters' convent in the hills, this was one of the areas used by the Germans when they first came to Tanzania. Just imagine sleeping in the building being used as a bunker in World War II, which gives its a particularly haunted character, but actually, it was built sometime in the 1970s.
